Coffee beans have great abilities. It begins its life inside a plant-like cherry that is treasured around the world, yet it is rare for people to wonder where this coffee comes from and why it tastes so different.
What is Arabica coffee?
This is the finest quality coffee and is referred to as gourmet coffee. It is considered to be of high quality, unlike Robusta. Most varieties of Arabica beans are named after the country or region in which they are found or originated, as it represents 70% of worldwide coffee production.
Arabica is the first coffee to be cultivated, and due to its very delicate nature, it needs to be grown in high surface regions on mountains with moderate rain and constant temperatures.
Where did the name Arabica come from?
The Arabica coffee plant got its name in the seventh century when coffee beans crossed the Red Sea from Ethiopia to Yemen the lower part of the Arabian Peninsula, hence the term Arabica coffee was named.

Arabica coffee beans grow in about 50 countries around the world in areas known as the coffee belt due to their need for shade, water, and a height of at least 609.6 meters. The Arabica coffee is the most widely used by large commercial establishments, due to its previous advantages in addition to containing a high amount of caffeine and it’s available around the world, sometimes people mix it with Robusta coffee to create different and unique blends.
What is Robusta coffee?
Robusta is more intense. It can grow and produce seeds at lower elevations, it can withstand the vagaries of the weather, and are more resistant to diseases so its yields are more assured.

Nut like flavor – Better foam – More caffeine – antioxidants – Stronger – Less bitterness
Where does Robusta coffee come from?
Robusta coffee is grown in the eastern hemisphere in Africa and Indonesia. Vietnam is considered to be the most productive country.
Robusta coffee is the second most popular type of coffee, originating in Africa, specifically in the southern desert of Africa. Africa comes in second place in producing the Robusta coffee after Indonesia. The Robusta coffee cultivated at lower altitudes, in hot and less humid climates, is less desirable than Arabica coffee. Robusta beans are larger than other types of beans and it’s a disease-resistant coffee plant with a strong and distinctive aroma.
Of course, these beans are lower grade compared to Arabica coffee and are usually grown at lower elevations. It represents 30% of worldwide coffee production.
The most important differences between Arabica and Robusta coffee beans:
Taste: The Arabica coffee is smooth, slightly sweet, fruity, and easy to drink with the perfect amount of acidity for a balanced drink. However, the Robusta is bitter and more intense.
Usage: Robusta is usually used for instant coffee and in small portions to the espresso mixture. On the other hand, the Arabica beans are used for most of the other things.
Caffeine Percentage: Arabica has a low caffeine content of about 1.5%, while Robusta has almost twice the caffeine percentage about 2.7%.
Origin: Arabica is mainly produced in East and Central Africa, Latin America, India, and Indonesia while Robusta beans are grown in Africa, Southeast Asia, India, and Indonesia.
Sugar percentage: Arabica in particular has a high sugar content, almost twice the percentage of the Robusta beans. It also has 60% extra fat.
The shape: The Arabica coffee bean is oval in shape, has a central fold, and in general, it’s larger.
Robusta, on the other hand, are much paler and the central crease is less noticeable, rounder, and smaller.
